Living the Esports dream through a professional gamer aka The Doolsta.
UPDATE: The Continental Cup at Paris Games Week concluded 10/28 with American qualifier Joksan Redona upsetting 32 international FIFA 19 competitors, including 3 Germans in the Final Four, to win the championship & the 20,000 Euro grand prize. An amazing victory for the American & huge statement for North American FIFA Pros.

The HBO docu-series Hard Knocks, the show that followed the Cleveland Browns throughout the preseason is one of my favorite sports programs along with HBO Boxing's (RIP) 24/7 All Access. I love getting to know the new NFL players as well as the competitors involved in championship matches. Yes, I'm the Sucker that gets drawn into the drama & buys the pay-per-view to see the fight unfold. Get to know the personalities & you're invested in their dreams.
A few months ago my company, Most-Prolific Films in association with The-Revival-House pitched an executive at a major video game company a TV concept; Hard Knocks meets Esports. He said he was intrigued with the concept & would talk to a friend at a network. Somewhat shockingly, after only a few days, he gave us the green light & told us that Fox Sports FS1 wanted 4 primetime 30 minute linear programs. I know what you're thinking...Competitive video games? People watching other people gaming? Kids getting college scholarships to play games? Aren't gamers just booger eaters....What's up with that?
We've seen the mansions these elite esports teams live in, the $24+ million dollar prize purses of The International - Dota 2 Finals in Seattle/Vancouver BC, the traditional sports owners investing 8 figures into esports teams and of course, Twitch & YouTube.
How do you explain this to the folks who have heard about esports, but don't fully grasp it ?That's what my 4 partners & I set out to do 3 weeks ago. Take a console game like FIFA 19 that has millions of users, an established competitive format & dive deep getting to know the competitors . These pros aren't just kids playing in the basement, they're representing the best soccer clubs in the world. *The Premiere League, arguably the world's best league, just announced last month that they'll have esports athletes representing each club in a proper league.
Here's what we did on our way to writing directing, producing, filming & editing 3 shows in the last 3 weeks. We found an amazing young man, Cormac Dooley aka Doolsta, in the underdog capital of the world, Philadelphia. Our crew lived & followed Doolsta as he prepared to compete in qualifying tournament to earn a spot in the 32 person final at The Continental Cup at Paris Games Week, 10/26-10/28. An American underdog playing against the global soccer powers in FIFA 19 in Paris. It's a look at a pretty normal high school student athlete/pro gamer as he gets thrust into the limelight.
You'll discover Cormac Dooley aka Doolsta, pro FIFA player for the MLS Philadelphia Union, high school senior & seven sport athlete. We secured a "Gaming Mansion" & took Doolsta & his family there for a week. International & domestic sparring & training, luxurious accommodations, a nutritionist, chef & even inspirational coaches were provided. What we found were real athletes that were dedicated to their craft, bonded by the tribe of esports & competition. Esports isn't a fade, it's the real deal & only getting bigger.
The esports scene is exploding all over the world right now, and brands & media companies plan to be on the cutting edge of this wildly popular video game uprising. Brands are partnering with Most-Prolific x The-Revival-House to go in-depth and document the intensity and excitement of what happens behind closed doors with these professional esports athletes. Similar to traditional sports, viewers will get an inside glimpse and exclusive insights to a world class athlete.
My partner, Jeff Odiorne, Chief Creative Officer of The-Revival-House, has embraced the opportunity and realizes there’s an energetic unified collaboration. “Glenn & I are uniquely qualified with over 25 years' experience in the space telling athlete and sports stories, along with having built one of the largest sports video game brand in the world. In addition, our time leading traditional sports and youth culture brands at the highest levels has lead us to esports. The combination of our experience is significant, and we are excited about our position to become a leader of content development in the esports space,” Odiorne added.
If you're curious about esports or already a fan, check it out. Just like Hard Knocks & 24/7 All Access, you'll get pulled in by the drama & personalities of these athletes. Let me know what you think of the show & esports in general.
